Featured Creatives - Natalie Lappin

Posted on August 26, 2010 at 12:00 PM

This week's Featured Creator is the lovely Natalie Lappin. Life Coach, healer, Children's Author, candlemaker and mum to two gorgeous little boys.....this girl is living proof that you really can "have it all".

A2Z: What is your area of creativity? (Do you paint, sew, write or sculpt etc)

Natalie: I am a Children’s Book Author. I also make homemade Natural Soy Candles.

A2Z: How old are you? (Completely optional question)

Natalie: 38 years young.

A2Z: How long have you been creating?

Natalie: Only since last year, as I am also an Intuitive Life Coach & Healer for approximately 5 years, that is my main ‘job’. I started a children’s group called ‘Magic Kid’s’ last year and saw a gap in the market for children’s books about Archangels, so I decided the next natural step would be to create a series of my own. In the process that lead to another series being born, ‘Daisy the very busy Fairy’. The candles are about 6 months old, I have heaps in my Healing Room that I use all the time, so it was for need as well as to sell!

A2Z: What makes you and your creations unique? (What do you do that no one else does/what do you do better than anyone else etc)

Natalie: I have never seen nor heard of any other Archangel Children’s Book in the world!

A2Z: What is your biggest creative goal for the moment?

Natalie: To finish publishing both Children’s Book series and also a deck of Oracle cards I have created also.

A2Z: What has been your greatest creative achievement to date?

Natalie: Getting the first Archangel book published and for sale.

A2Z: Have you ever had an embarrassing moment or complete disaster with any of your creative works? (Optional question)

Natalie: No, I’m very, very careful, though there have been a couple of close calls!

A2Z: What would you like to get out of the Art 2 Zee Magazine and/or website? (Creative ideas, extra business, greater exposure, marketing advice, new creative connections or just a jolly good read.... etc)

Natalie: All of the above would be great!

A2Z: When /how did you decide to pursue your creativity as a business?

Natalie: I felt like I had no other choice, I was strongly ‘pushed’ by those on the other side to pursue my burning desire to ‘know more’.

A2Z: How do you produce an income from your creative work? (sell at markets/online/in shops etc)

Natalie: I’m at the Chiltern Market, sell online off my websites, from my Healing Room in Chiltern and am fortunate to have some of my Natural Soy Candles available in a local gallery/gift shop.

A2Z: What are the best things about having a creative small business for you?

Natalie: Once you’re in the mode of doing what you love, more and more and more and more ideas continually present themselves to you as viable business opportunities for growth and expansion! It’s fantastic feeling and very exciting!

A2Z: Is there a downside?

Natalie: Yes, it’s a lot of work and so many times you feel like your just treading water, but in reality you really are making big waves and when your work starts to get noticed, you realize its because of all your own blood, sweat and tears that made that happen. A great sense of accomplishment!

A2Z: What is a typical “work” day like for you? (What you do for the day, are you very organised or do you just go with the flow?)

Natalie: There are things I have to do, usually promotion stuff, returning emails and pretty much laying groundwork for upcoming events etc. Always something to do, but I love it!

A2Z: What piece of advice do you have for those starting out in a creative business?

Natalie: Follow your heart; it won’t lead you the wrong way!

A2Z: What motivational advice can you give to other small creative business owners like yourself?

Natalie: Eyes on the prize! Keep visualizing the end result and how good you feel in that moment! And always remember, you deserve to do what you love, no matter what anyone else thinks or feels about it, surround yourself with positive people who support you!

A2Z: Do you have any creative developments/big news that you would like to share? (New product/service launch, an upcoming event, new face book page/webpage, being published, getting an award)

Natalie: Yes, the launch for ‘Getting to know Archangel Michael’ will be at Lake View House, Chiltern on the 16th of October at 1pm till 3pm. Everyone is welcome! You can pre order ‘Getting to know Archangel Michael’ here and My Soy Candles are available here
